Wabi-Sabi Dining table

£2800.00

Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese term used to describe a type of ascetic. It doesn't translate easily and is something you could write a whole book about but essentially it’s the idea of beauty in the imperfect, rough, weathered, and asymmetric. The beauty of nature and of natural materials, such as wood, is that they are irregular.

This table takes inspiration from the roughness and asymmetry of the materials themselves and leaves them on display to be appreciated. The Ash boards used for the top aren’t joined, allowing the center of the table to be used to display the natural edges of the tree.

The table legs are made from contrasting fumed pippy-oak. The oak we’ve used is intentionally very gnarly with lots of little knots and splits. The intention with this piece is to leave these natural features and simply make little repairs to anything that might need it. These repairs don’t try to hide the cracks, they show a story of the material and it being worked on that adds another level of appeal to the piece.

With the Wabi-Sabi table, each piece will be unique, as the wood used would be different each time. The idea is to let the wood inspire and lead the small details of the design.
